VICTORIAN HOME, Central London

“Where Countries Collide”

Designing this North London home for a young family relocating from the United States was an opportunity to create a space that felt both rooted and forward-looking. With a second child expected later in the year, the brief was to craft a warm, practical home that blended the clean lines and relaxed character of mid-century American design with the charm and architectural integrity of a Victorian house. Drawing inspiration from nature, we layered a rich spectrum of greens throughout the interiors to create a calm and cohesive palette. The layout was thoughtfully reconfigured: the kitchen was redesigned to better support family life, while the traditional double reception was transformed into a flexible living and play area. Throughout the house, playful and personal details bring character to the scheme—from hand-painted light signage to a whimsical space-mural ceiling—balancing timeless design with moments of joy and imagination.

A soft green front door introduces the home’s recurring colour story, while warm timber floors and a vintage wooden bench bring a sense of warmth and practicality for family life. The long runner adds pattern and movement through the space, guiding the eye toward the original staircase and natural light beyond. Thoughtful details—such as the pared-back coat rail, oval mirror, and subtle decorative touches—create a calm and functional entry that feels both timeless and lived-in.

Deep green walls wrap the room in warmth, highlighting the original Victorian fireplace and architectural detailing. Mid-century American influences are introduced through warm timber furniture, sculptural lighting and relaxed seating, creating a space that feels both timeless and comfortable. Layered textures—patterned rugs, boucle stools and smoked glass—add depth, while curated artwork and personal pieces bring character to the walls. One side of the room is designed for relaxed living, while the other subtly incorporates a play area for the children, creating a space that balances sophistication with everyday family life..
